Purposeful Living Series | August – Week 2- Prepared Before Promotion

"See, I have called by name Bezalel... and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship."( Exodus 31:2–3, NKJV)

One of the greatest misconceptions about success is that preparation begins when the opportunity arrives.
God's pattern is different.
Throughout Scripture, God prepared people long before He positioned them. Before Bezalel was entrusted to build the Tabernacle, God had already filled him with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and skill. Daniel distinguished himself in leadership because an excellent spirit was in him.
The same principle applies to us.
This week's theme is Prepared Before Promotion
Many of us spend our time waiting for the next opportunity, promotion, or open door. Yet God often uses our current responsibilities to prepare us for the assignments ahead.
Looking back on my own career, I now realize that some of my greatest preparation took place during a season when no one noticed me. As an adjunct faculty member with no full-time appointment, the Lord helped me to give every assignment my very best. (I share more about this experience in the full devotional.) One thing I reminded myself of daily was that my students deserved the same level of excellence and commitment, regardless of my title or paycheck.
Only later did I understand that God was using those years to prepare me for opportunities I could not yet see.
One lesson has remained with me ever since:
Excellence is not determined by position; it is a posture of the heart that honors God in every assignment.
Wherever you find yourself today, remember that God is preparing you. The work you do today, the challenges you face, and the character you develop may all be part of His preparation for tomorrow.
Pause and Reflect on Prepared Before Promotion
Take a few quiet moments with the Lord this week and ask yourself:
How is God preparing me through my current responsibilities?
Am I serving with excellence, even when no one seems to notice?
What can I do today to better prepare for the opportunities God has planned for my future?
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for preparing me for the purpose You have planned for my life. Help me to serve faithfully in every assignment, whether it is seen by many or known only to You. Develop within me a spirit of excellence, wisdom, humility, and integrity. Teach me to trust Your preparation and to honor You through my work each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Go Deeper
To go deeper in this journey, I invite you to explore:
Growing in Christ means allowing God to shape both our character and our calling. As we walk faithfully with Him, He prepares us for every opportunity He has ordained.
This Week...
Take time to reflect on the season you are in.
Ask yourself: "How is God preparing me through my current responsibilities?"
Choose one area of your life where you can intentionally demonstrate a spirit of excellence this week, not to gain recognition, but to glorify God through your work.
Remember
God prepares us long before He positions us. Serve faithfully, pursue excellence, and trust that every season of preparation is equipping you for the opportunities He has already planned.
