Adapting, Growing, and Impacting | Purposeful Living - August Week 4

"…that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God."(Colossians 1:9–10 (NKJV)
As we conclude our August journey, we are reminded that entering a new season is only the beginning. This week we focus on the theme, Adapting, Growing, and Impacting.
When God opens a new door, He does more than give us a new assignment. He continues shaping us so that we can faithfully fulfill the purpose He has for us in that season.
Looking back on my own journey, I realize that accepting a new position required me to adapt to a new academic environment, continue growing as an educator and leader, and discover new ways to serve my students, university, and community.
Developing new courses, understanding employer needs, building partnerships with local government and nonprofit professionals, creating a certificate, and promoting it to students were responsibilities I had never carried before. Those experiences reminded me that God's preparation does not end when we arrive. He continues to develop us as we faithfully serve where He has placed us.
The same is true for each of us.
Every new assignment presents opportunities to learn, expand our capacity, and positively influences the people around us.
As Paul prayed for the believers in Colossians, God's desire is that we continue to grow in wisdom, increase in our knowledge of Him, and bear fruit through every good work. That good work includes our career.
Those "good works" include the work God has called us to do each day.
Whether you serve in education, business, government, healthcare, ministry, or any other profession, your work is an opportunity to glorify God.
Many people pray for new opportunities and promotions, but once they arrive, they unintentionally separate the demands of their work from their faith. As followers of Christ, we are called to something different.
Even in workplaces where we may not be able to share our faith openly, we can still reflect Christ through our character, integrity, humility, compassion, and spirit of excellence.
Our work should never draw us away from our faith. Instead, our faith should shape how we work.
Ask yourself: Is my work drawing me away from God, or is my relationship with God shaping the way I approach my work?
God does not bring us into new seasons to occupy new spaces. He calls us to adapt, grow, and make a difference while we are there.
Pause and Reflect
Take a few quiet moments with the Lord this week and ask yourself:
How is God asking me to adapt in this season?
Is my relationship with God shaping the way I approach my work or is my work drawing me away from God?
In what areas is He continuing to help me grow?
How can I use what He has entrusted to me to make a greater impact in the lives of others?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for every opportunity You have entrusted to me. Continue to fill me with Your wisdom and understanding as I serve where You have placed me. Help me remain teachable, continue to grow, and bear fruit in every good work. May my life and leadership make a lasting difference for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Go Deeper
To continue growing in your walk with Christ, I invite you to explore:
God's work in our lives continues long after we enter a new season. As we grow in Christ, He expands our wisdom, strengthens our character, and equips us to make a meaningful difference wherever He leads us.
This Week...
Choose one area where God is calling you to adapt, continue growing, or intentionally invest in someone else.
Take one practical step that will help you become more effective and use your gifts to influence those around you positively.
Remember:
God does not bring us into new seasons to occupy new spaces. He continues to grow us so that our lives bear fruit and make a lasting impact for His glory.
