urposeful Living October Week 1, When Your Strength Is Not Enough, from Called to Lead by ProfEuvic & Co

October Theme: Renewed Strength for the Journey

"He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength." (Isaiah 40:29 NKJV)

There are seasons when determination can take us only so far.

We can be hardworking, capable, experienced, and committed, and still reach moments when our own strength is not enough. That is not necessarily a sign of failure. Sometimes, it is an invitation to depend more fully on God.

Looking back over my own journey, I can see many such moments.

Before becoming a professor and earning my Ph.D., there were seasons when I worked full-time while attending school full-time. I had work responsibilities and assignments, family responsibilities, ministry service, and other goals to pursue. Yet through every stage, the Lord strengthened me.

One lesson became foundational for me: I had to put God first.

During my Ph.D. journey, I also had to undergo surgery. I could not have predicted how everything would work together, but God carried me through. I did not have to abandon my education. Even at a physically vulnerable point, He provided the strength I needed to continue.

That experience reminds me of Isaiah's words: God "gives power to the weak."

Today, whether I am teaching, leading, writing, serving in ministry, or carrying other responsibilities, I continue to rely on God for divine wisdom and strength. I prepare, work, and do my part faithfully. But I never want to believe that everything depends upon me.

Philippians 4:13 has become almost a personal motto:

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

For me, this does not mean I can accomplish anything I choose simply because I want to. It means that whatever God calls me to walk through or entrusts into my hands, I can depend upon Christ for the strength to do it.

Perhaps you are carrying something today that feels heavier than you can bear. You do not have to pretend to be stronger than you are.

Put God first. Do your part faithfully. And depend upon Him for the strength you do not have.

Sometimes it is at our weakest point that we discover most clearly just how strong our God is.

Pause and Reflect

Where are you currently relying primarily on your own strength?

What would it look like to genuinely depend upon God in that area this week?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my source of strength. Where I am weak, strengthen me. Where I am uncertain, give me wisdom. Help me to put You first, faithfully do my part, and trust You with what is beyond my ability or control. In Jesus' name, Amen.

This Week

Before beginning your major responsibilities each morning, pause and pray:

"Lord, give me wisdom for what I should do, grace for what I cannot control, and strength to faithfully accomplish what You have entrusted to me."

Remember

You can rely on the God who gives strength to the weak and grace for every step of the journey.
